Weston Playhouse New Musical Award Description: This national award supports the creation of a 30-minute demo CD of a new, full-length musical or a substantial revision of an existing work; preference is given to emerging composing teams. Details: The creators, a music director and 5 Equity/AFTRA actors travel to Weston, VT for 3 days of rehearsal and a free public concert followed by a NYC recording session with Kurt Deutsch of Sh-K-Boom and Ghostlight Records. All artists are paid on union agreements and all expenses (Vermont travel, housing and meals) are covered. The creators receive 100 copies of the resulting demo CD. Weston Playhouse Artists Retreat Description: Individual or collaborating artists (writers, composers, directors, actors, choreographers, music directors, designers, artistic directors, dramaturgs) are invited to further a new project during a week’s retreat (Sunday to Sunday) in Weston, Vermont. Details: 5-7 participants receive round trip transportation, single bedroom with shared kitchen and bath in company housing, private workspace, meals/per diem, administrative support, and access to the theatre’s artistic staff, if needed. The artists gather together most evenings for dinner in private homes or local inns, and the week culminates in an informal salon in which the participants share aspects of their work and process with interested members of the community. Stage Readings Description: New or classic plays or musicals are rehearsed, sometimes revised, and shared in simple book-in-hand readings. Details: Equity actors rehearse with a director, writer, dramaturg, and – as needed – a composer, music director, and stage manager – for 3-10 days under Actors’ Equity Association Stage Reading guidelines. The work culminates in a free public reading, usually followed by a focused discussion.  World Premieres Description: As projects and funding permit, a full production of a new play or musical will be mounted on one of Weston’s stages.
