CELEBRATE
SHAKESPEARE’S 445th BIRTHDAY AT THE SPIRAL PRESS
CAFÉ
(Weston, VT) --- “All
the World’s A Stage” at 7pm on Saturday,
April 26th at the Spiral Press Café when the
Weston Playhouse Theatre Co. and the Northshire Bookstore
join forces to celebrate William Shakespeare’s
445th Birthday with a free public community play reading
of the Bard’s classic comedy of love and language,
AS YOU LIKE IT. All are welcome to join, either
as “groundlings” or readers or both. No
dramatic experience necessary, just an Elizabethan spirit
of fun. Come in costume and be eligible to win free
tickets to the WPTC production of AS YOU LIKE IT,
appearing on the Weston Playhouse MainStage August 28-September
6, 2008.
One of Shakespeare’s most popular comedies, AS
YOU LIKE IT tells the timeless of tale of the headstrong
Rosalind, her dainty cousin Celia, and the witty fool
Touchstone, who escape from the usurping Duke Frederick
to the mythic Forest of Arden, where, joined by the
melancholic Jaques, love-struck Orlando, and a host
of other fun forest folks, their romantic fantasies,
philosophical fancies, and linguistic flights soar in
verse, puns, and song.
The party begins at 7pm with a brief dramatic excerpt
by veteran Shakespearean actor, Sam Lloyd, followed
by a public reading of the play. Food and drink are
available from the Spiral Press and the Bard himself
may even appear to blow out his birthday candles!
Part of the WPTC Stage Door Series, the free event is
co-sponsored by the Spiral Press and the Northshire
Bookstore. For more information on the Stage Door Series,
